Sathira Jakir Jessy is on the way to history as she will act as an umpire in the upcoming ICC ODI World Cup. She is the first Bangladeshi female umpire, who is going to earn the feat. Though she did not get official announcement from International Cricket Council (ICC), the highest body of world cricket but she has got green signal from ICC.
When she got offer from ICC, Sathira Jakir Jessy was staying in Makkah, the holy city of Saudi Arabia. Jessy said, ” I was in Makkah when I got green signal from ICC. I was crying after getting the good news as I was highly delighted after knowing that news.”
Jessy expected that she would get chance to officiate as an umpire in the recently concluded ICC T20 World Cup. She is very glad as she has got chance this time.
Jessy said, ” Alhamdulillah! I was waiting for a chance to act as a role of umpire in ICC World Cup. I have got the chance at last. I expected that I would get chance in the ICC T20 World Cup. But I did not get the chance. Thanks to the Almighty I get an opportunity to officiate as an umpire in the upcoming ICC ODI World Cup.”
Sathira Jakir Jessy and Sharfuddoula Saikat are the two umpires from Bangladesh will act as umpire in the forthcoming ICC ODI World Cup. Saikat is the first Bangladeshi who acted as an umpire in ICC World Cup. Saikat made his debut in India in the year of 2023. He acted as an umpire in ICC ODI World Cup 2023. It has not confirm yet Jessy will make her debut if in India or Sri Lanka. After some time the matter will be confirm.
The ensuing ICC ODI Women’s World Cup will be held in India and Sri Lanka. The tournament will start on September 30. Bangladesh will take on Pakistan in their first match on October 2.
Jessy played for Bangladesh National Women’s Cricket team in three matches. Her playing career was not so remarkable. But she has experience to acted as an umpire in the ICC Youth World Cup. Last year she officiated as an umpire in the Women’s Asia Cup. She also perform as an umpire in the ICC Women’s Under-19 World Cup.
