Sarjis Alam, a key coordinator of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, has urged students to stop controlling traffic on the road.
“Our request to the students is that there is no need to take to the streets anymore,” he said on Friday morning while talking to reporters at Dhaka University’s Amar Ekushey Hall, reports media.
“To bring the country back to stability, everyone should return to their respective responsibilities,” he said.
He further added: “The police are gradually resuming their duties. We urge students to hand over responsibilities to the police when they arrive. Students will have to move away from there.
Thank you for your efforts, but this is not your responsibility.”
On August 5, after the fall of the Sheikh Hasina government, there were reports of vandalism and looting in police stations, Awami League offices and establishments. In the absence of law enforcers, students took to the streets.
Gradually, the police returned, but the students are still seen managing the traffic.
