Chattagram Bureau :

Chattagram is the south-eastern port city of Bangladesh is more than just the country’s second-largest urban hub. In national politics, Chattogram has always held symbolic as well as numerical importance.

The district contains 16 parliamentary seats, making it a battleground for the country’s leading political parties whenever national election approaches.

Sandwip Upazila, which comprises the entirety of the Chattogram-3 constituency, is a historically significant island located in the estuary of the Meghna River in the Bay of Bengal.

It is known for its unique geography, rich history, and economic reliance on the sea and remittances.

The only way to reach the island is by water (ferry terminal). The area was upgraded to an Upazila in 1984 and currently consists of 1 municipality and 15 unions.

In the upcoming 13th National Parliament Election-2026 BNP nominated former MP Mostafa Kamal Pasha as its candidate for the Chattogram-3 (Sandwip) constituency. He has a long political career within the BNP.

He has previously served multiple terms as a Member of Parliament (MP) for the Sandwip constituency. He also holds experience in local government positions. Chattogram-3 covers the entire island upazila of Sandwip.

His candidacy was announced recently, as part of a second batch of candidates for Chattogram after the initial list left this seat vacant for a short period of time.

Mostafa Kamal Pasha is a seasoned politician and a well-known figure in the Sandwip area, making him a strong contender for the seat.
The Jamaat-e-Islami candidate nominated for the Chattogram-3 (Sandwip) constituency is Alauddin Sikder.

His name was included in the comprehensive list of candidates finalized by the Jamaat election board for the greater Chattogram region constituencies.

Like other nominated Jamaat leaders, he has been involved in unit-level meetings and organizational efforts in the Sandwip area to mobilize party workers and prepare for the election.

As previously mentioned, Jamaat-e-Islami operates without official registration as a political party with the Election Commission since 2013.

Therefore, its candidates typically contest elections as independent candidates or as part of a larger alliance under a different party’s electoral symbol. However, it will be known only after the vote who will be in the final stage.
