Sammilito Parishad has announced a formidable 35-member panel for the upcoming biennial election of the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA), scheduled for 31 May 2025. With an aim to uphold continued progress in the RMG sector, the panel will be led by Md Abul Kalam, Managing Director of Chaity Group.
The panel includes a balanced mix of seasoned industry leaders and promising young entrepreneurs. Notably, two former BGMEA presidents—Faruque Hassan and Khandoker Rafiqul Islam—are among the candidates, reinforcing the panel’s depth of experience.
The BGMEA Election Board finalized the list of eligible candidates on Tuesday after reviewing 44 nomination papers submitted by 43 aspirants from Sammilito Parishad. Following standard practice, the panel leader submitted two nominations, with surplus candidates withdrawing their papers in line with internal decisions.

Leadership and Vision:
Panel leader Md Abul Kalam emphasized the inclusion of both experienced leaders and emerging talents, aiming to prepare future leadership in the sector. “Our mission is to build a well-structured, participatory, and globally competitive BGMEA,” he said. The panel is focused on member welfare, progressive policymaking, and sustainable industry growth.
Faruque Hassan, former BGMEA President, is serving as Chief Coordinator of the panel, while former First Vice-President Nasir Uddin Chowdhury is coordinating efforts in Chattogram.
The final candidate list will be published on 8 May 2025. The election will be conducted simultaneously in Dhaka and Chattogram on 31 May.
