Leaders of the Sammilito Parishad, contesting in the upcoming Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) election, have pledged to address the key challenges facing the ready-made garment (RMG) sector and maintain the country’s export momentum.
The commitment was made during a “Meet the Press” event held on Thursday at a hotel in Dhaka.
Sammilito Parishad President and former BGMEA President Quazi Moniruzzaman, panel leader and Managing Director of Chaity Group Md Abul Kalam, and former BGMEA President Faruque Hassan addressed the gathering, moderated by Md Mustazirul Shovon Islam.
The BGMEA election for the 2025-27 term is scheduled for May 31. Panel leader Md Abul Kalam noted that the election comes at a critical juncture for the RMG sector, with global trade uncertainties, including the imposition of reciprocal tariffs by the United States-Bangladesh’s largest export market-posing significant risks.
He also cited the domestic energy crisis, complications in customs, bond and banking procedures, and the looming challenges of LDC graduation as key concerns.
Kalam emphasized that Sammilito Parishad has assembled a strong panel of experienced, educated, and professional entrepreneurs dedicated to securing industry-friendly policies and continuing the sector’s growth trajectory.
Quazi Moniruzzaman highlighted that many of BGMEA’s past achievements occurred under Sammilito Parishad’s leadership. He reaffirmed the platform’s commitment to supporting RMG entrepreneurs with integrity and accountability.
