A Dhaka court on Wednesday placed former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s adviser and Beximco Group Vice Chairman Salman F Rahman, former Law Minister Anisul Haque, and Awami League leader Nuru Mia on a two-day remand in connection with a murder case.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mehera Mahbub issued the order after PBI Inspector Muhammad Kamruzzaman, the investigating officer, sought a five-day remand for each of the accused.
The court, however, rejected the remand petition for another accused, Sohanur Rahman Azad, as well as his bail plea submitted by Advocate Zahirul Islam.
According to the case details, Md Riaz, a 23-year-old student, sustained bullet injuries during an anti-discrimination student protest at the Science Lab intersection on August 4, 2024. He succumbed to his injuries on August 17.
Following his death, Shafia Begum, Riaz’s mother, filed a case with the Dhanmondi Police Station.
In a related development, the court also accepted a petition to show nine other political figures arrested in separate cases filed with Jatrabari Police Station. The individuals include:

Hasanul Haque Inu, former minister
Rashed Khan Menon, former minister
Quamrul Islam, former minister
Zunaid Ahmed Palak, former state minister for ICT
Atiqul Islam, former mayor of Dhaka North
Manirul Islam Manu, former MP
Jahangir Alam, former secretary to the Home Ministry
Rajani Akter Tushi, Awami League leader
Additionally, the court accepted a petition to show Salman F Rahman and Anisul Haque arrested in two separate cases also filed at Jatrabari Police Station.
