A Dhaka court has granted a four-day remand for former absconding Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s Private Industry and Investment Adviser, Salman F Rahman, former Law Minister Anisul Huq, former State Minister for ICT Zunaid Ahmed Palak, and former Ambassador and Trinomul (grassroots) BNP’s former President, Shamsher Mobin Chowdhury, in connection with the murder of Parvez Mia during an anti-discrimination movement in the capital’s Jatrabari area.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate GM Farhan Ishtiaq issued the remand order after a hearing on Monday (February 10).
Earlier, the investigating officer, Sub-Inspector Md. Nazmul Hasan of Jatrabari Police Station, sought a 10-day remand for the accused. The four individuals were brought to court from prison for the remand hearing in the morning.
During the hearing, Metropolitan Public Prosecutor Omar Faruk Faruki argued in favor of the remand, while the defense lawyers sought bail and the cancellation of the remand.
After reviewing both arguments, the court granted a four-day remand.
According to the case details, on August 5, Parvez Mia participated in the anti-discrimination movement in Jatrabari. In the afternoon, he sustained gunshot wounds allegedly inflicted by the accused. He was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where doctors later declared him dead.
