Staff Reporter :

Finance Adviser Dr. Salehuddin Ahmed on Sunday urged industrialists to invest in education and research to address the gap in skilled manpower and knowledge within the industrial sector.

He made these remarks as the chief guest at the celebration ceremony of the Graduate Diploma in Leather, Leather Goods, and Footwear Management program organized by East West University (EWU) on its campus.

Dr. Salehuddin emphasized that the groundbreaking successes of global icons like Bill Gates and Elon Musk were not achieved in isolation; rather, they were the result of sustained investments in research over time.

He pointed out the irony that while many business leaders in Bangladesh lament the shortage of skilled manpower, they remain reluctant to support educational and research initiatives.

The event was chaired by Chief Adviser of EWU and former Governor of Bangladesh Bank, Professor Dr. Mohammed Farashuddin. Other notable speakers included Hoe Yun Jeong, Resident Representative of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) in Bangladesh; Professor Dr. Shams Rahman, Vice Chancellor of EWU; Mohammed Nazmul Hassan, Senior Vice President of the Leather goods and Footwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association of Bangladesh; Mohammed Walid Hossain, Additional Secretary of the Finance Division; and Dr. Tanbir Ahmed Chowdhury, Professor of Business Administration at EWU and Program Director of the Graduate Diploma in Leather, Leather goods, and Footwear Management.

The ceremony was attended by graduates of the diploma program, EWU faculty members, ministry officials, representatives from the ADB, and other dignitaries.
