Salahuddin Ahmed, a standing committee member of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), formally filed a written complaint on Tuesday with Advocate Tajul Islam, Chief Prosecutor of the International Crime Tribunal (ICT), naming former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and six others as accused of crimes against humanity.

Speaking to the media after submitting the complaint, Salahuddin stated, “I have personally lodged a case with the court against Sheikh Hasina and six others. Through proper investigation, many unknown names are expected to emerge as well.”

The accused named in the complaint are: former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina ,former Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal ,former Inspector General of Police (IGP) Shahidul Islam ,former IGP Benazir Ahmed ,former Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Asaduzzaman Mia, former army officer Colonel Ziaul Ahsan and former chief of counter-terrorism init of the police Monirul Islam.

During a brief press conference, Salahuddin urged victims of enforced disappearances, extrajudicial killings, and political repression during the previous regime to also file complaints with the ICT.

In response to questions from journalists regarding the delay in filing the complaint, he explained, “Due to various reasons, including political obligations and gathering necessary evidence, it took time to prepare and file the case.”

He accused the previous government, which he referred to as a “fascist regime,” of committing systematic acts of oppression, including judicial killings, police harassment, abductions, and politically motivated violence. He further alleged that these were orchestrated with the support of party-backed militants and law enforcement officials.

Salahuddin emphasised, “We believe in an independent judiciary and hope that justice will be ensured through a fair and transparent legal process. The people of Bangladesh and the international community deserve to see that justice is truly served.”

He called upon the current government to extend logistical support, including the expansion of investigation teams, to facilitate the trial process. “No matter who assumes power through elections, this trial must continue. This is not only a trial for justice but a trial for the blood of the martyrs. The entire nation demands that this trial be completed.”
