The Ministry of Home Affairs has preliminarily decided to send Golam Saklain, former additional deputy commissioner (ADC) of the Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), into forced retirement due to his involvement in the Pori Moni scandal.
The ministry has sought the opinion of the Bangladesh Public Service Commission (PSC) on this matter. In a letter to the PSC, the Ministry of Home Affairs outlined the allegations against Saklain, citing his illicit relationship with actress Pori Moni. The letter stated that Saklain frequently stayed at Pori Moni’s residence, and conversely, she stayed at his house in the absence of his wife.
On August 7, 2021, DMP had already withdrawn Saklain from his position in the Gulshan Division of the DB following allegations of misconduct with the actress during an investigation.
Media reports indicated that Saklain engaged in unprofessional conduct with Pori Moni while overseeing a case she filed on June 13, 2021, against five individuals, including businessman Nasir U Mahmud, the former president of Uttara Club.
Pori Moni accused Nasir U Mahmud of rape and physical assault, leading to Mahmud’s arrest from his Uttara residence the following day.
