To ensure a peaceful and uninterrupted celebration of the upcoming Durga Puja, the Sahapahar Upazila unit of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has pledged its support to the Hindu community. A discussion meeting was held on Tuesday (September 23) at 4:30 PM at the Sahapahar District Council Dak Bungalow, organized by the Upazila BNP.
The meeting was presided over by Alhaj Md. Rafiqul Islam Chowdhury Benu, President of Sahapahar Upazila BNP. It was conducted by Imam Hossain Rifat, Senior Joint Convener of the Upazila Chhatra Dal (BNP’s student wing).
Special guests included Md. Abdur Rahim, Senior Vice-President of the Upazila BNP; Md. Abdullah Ansari, Organizational Secretary; Md. Shafiqul Islam, Deputy Organizational Secretary; and Freedom Fighter Md. Zillur Rahman, Secretary for Liberation War Affairs. Other speakers included Vice-Presidents Rezaul Karim Master and Mohammad Tarikul Islam (former Chairman of Patari Union), Office Secretary Robiul Islam Robi, Acting Convener of the Upazila Jubo Dal Akkas Ali, Member Secretary Hasan Ali, and College Chhatra Dal President Waliul Islam.
Speakers emphasized that Durga Puja is the most significant religious festival for the Hindu community and that, in Bangladesh, people of all faiths have long celebrated their festivals in harmony. They expressed confidence that this tradition would continue this year as well.
Following the directive of BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman, party volunteers at the union, ward, and thana levels will coordinate with local Puja celebration committees. A monitoring team will also be formed to ensure the smooth observance of the festival.
During the event, speakers also urged students from Sahapahar to support Chhatra Dal candidates in the upcoming Rajshahi University Central Students’ Union (RUCSU) election.
In his speech, President Rafiqul Islam Chowdhury Benu warned, “Various conspiracies are underway ahead of the upcoming national election. The government and its allied forces are trying to incite communal unrest. We must remain alert. The BNP is fully committed to ensuring the safety and security of people of all religions.”
Over a hundred leaders and activists from the Upazila BNP and its affiliated organizations were present at the meeting.
