Safe return of Bangladeshis from Lebanon arranged: MoFA

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) has announced that the government has taken sufficient measures to ensure the safe return of Bangladeshis stranded in war-torn Lebanon.

In light of the growing number of Bangladeshis caught in the conflict, MoFA, in collaboration with the Ministry of Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment, is working to facilitate their repatriation.

The ministry stated that all necessary steps are being coordinated to ensure the safe return of any Bangladeshi citizens who wish to leave Lebanon.

An inter-ministerial meeting has already taken place, with Foreign Secretary Md Jashim Uddin, Expatriates’ Welfare Secretary Md Ruhul Amin, and Managing Director and CEO of Biman Bangladesh Airlines Limited Dr. Md. Shafiqur Rahman in attendance. Additionally, Bangladesh Mission Heads in the Middle East participated in the meeting virtually.

The Foreign Secretary has issued directives to the Bangladeshi Ambassador in Lebanon to take all necessary actions for the safe repatriation of those trapped in the conflict. He also emphasized ensuring the safety of those who choose to remain in Lebanon for the time being.

The embassy has issued a notification to register Bangladeshis wishing to return home. Initially, around a thousand migrant workers have expressed interest in returning to Bangladesh.
