The Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) has conducted an operation for the third consecutive day to reclaim the Ramchandrapur canal. In this operation, Sadeeq Agro’s Basila farm in the capital was completely evacuated and demolished.

The evacuation operation began on Saturday morning, June 29. This farm was built within the boundaries of the Ramchandrapur canal by occupying and filling the Sat Mosque Housing area of Mohammadpur under the jurisdiction of the DNCC.

The remaining structures of Sadeeq Agro, which had occupied the Ramchandrapur canal in Mohammadpur for 20 years, were demolished with excavators.

DNCC Chief Property Officer Mohammad Mahe Alam and Executive Magistrate Mahbub Hasan supervised the demolition, ensuring that the evacuation process was carried out efficiently.

Along with the evacuation, the city corporation also excavated the canal.

According to the DNCC, a beautiful walkway will be built around the canal after the reclamation work.

Ward No. 33 Councilor Asif Ahmed mentioned that the beauty of the canal will be enhanced along with the water flow by reclaiming the land. About 20 bighas of land have been recovered.

The reclaimed land will facilitate the construction of a walkway, improving the area’s aesthetics and utility.

Dhaka DNCC information officer Piyal Hasan announced that the three-day eviction process concluded on Saturday.

The DNCC has already started excavating the part of the canal that was filled.

The evacuated buildings included shops, restaurants, timber mills, political party offices, and a commercial cattle farm.

Earlier, on June 28, the second day of the raid, a mobile court auctioned off the seized goods from the demolished structures, fetching Tk 67,500.

This auction further underscored the DNCC’s commitment to restoring legality and order in the area.
