S Korean envoy visits Jamaat office

The South Korean Ambassador to Bangladesh, Park Young-sik, along with Deputy Chief of Mission Jinhee Baek, paid a courtesy visit to the central office of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami on Tuesday, at 10 AM. The delegation met with Jamaat-e-Islami Amir Dr. Shafiqur Rahman.

Following the meeting, the leaders addressed the media in a brief press conference. Dr. Shafiqur Rahman stated, “We discussed issues of mutual interest between our two countries and shared our views on how to further enhance our friendly relations.”

He highlighted the recent mass uprising in Bangladesh against an authoritarian government, emphasizing the struggle of the people over the past 15 years. “This nation has temporarily gained freedom at the cost of countless lives and sacrifices, both at home and abroad,” he said.

Dr. Rahman elaborated on how to advance Bangladesh and improve the welfare, security, and progress of its people, emphasizing the importance of collaboration with the international community, particularly in enhancing the partnership between Bangladesh and the Republic of Korea.

He also drew attention to how the Republic of Korea could assist in providing medical care for those injured during the recent protests.

“They have assured us of their support, which is crucial at this moment,” he added.
Additionally, discussions included how Bangladeshi expatriates in Korea could contribute with their integrity and skills and how to facilitate their increased presence in Korea.

“Our discussions were excellent and satisfactory, and they assured us of further cooperation with Bangladesh. We listened carefully to their suggestions and clarified our positions. We believe they are now fully reassured of our discussions,” Dr. Rahman said.

He noted that during this visit, the South Korean delegation gained a clear understanding of Bangladesh’s social and contextual landscape.

Representatives from Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami present at the meeting included Deputy Amir and former MP Professor Mujibur Rahman, Dr. Syed Abdullah Mohammad Taher, Maulana Anwar Shamsul Islam, Assistant Secretary General Maulana Rafiqul Islam Khan, and several other leaders from the central executive committee.
