Russia has welcomed the Unites States’s “balanced position” after Washington voted with Moscow at the United Nations General Assembly to avoid condemnation of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
Separately, the UN Security Council has backed a US government resolution calling for an end to the war in Ukraine, without mentioning Russia as the aggressor. French President Emmanuel Macron has warned that peace cannot mean the “surrender” of Ukraine, but says talks with US President Donald Trump have shown a path forward despite fears of a transatlantic rift.
In Ukraine, a Russian air attack has injured a 44-year-old woman and damaged several houses in the Kyiv region, according to the regional governor, Mykola Kalashnyk.
