Fifty three years have passed since Danveer Ranada Prasad Saha (RP Saha) and his only son Bhavani Prasad Saha Ravi were killed on May 7 in the liberation war of 1971. However, no graves were marked, no memorial plaques were erected.
On this day in 1971, the Pakistani forces brutally tortured and killed the innocent Bengalis in Mirzapur. Even though Mirzapur was free and independent from the invaders through the sacrifice of the innocent Bengalis, the people of Mirzapur still shudder when they remember the terrible memories of that day. Even after 53 years of independence, the plaque with their names has not been erected in memory of those whose sacrifice made Mirzapur independent and free. There is anger and frustration among the martyr’s family and common people.
In this regard, Mayor of Mirzapur Municipality Salma Akhter Shimul said that on May 7 Genocide Day, the municipality and upazila administration will offer floral tributes in memory of those who were killed in Mirzapur.
