The annual science-based Olympiad ‘Precise Energy’, organised by Rosatom’s engineering arm Atomstroyexport for the Rajshahi Division, was recently held in Ishwardi.
A record number of about three thousand students participated in the Olympiad this year.
The main objective of the Olympiad is to develop interest in science among students and attract them to nuclear energy engineering and technology.
Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission and Russia’s National Atomic Research University MEFYI collaborated in organising this Olympiad.
Students from 47 educational institutions in Pabna, Kushtia, Natore, and Rajshahi districts participated in the Olympiad in the junior and senior categories.
The competition was held in two phases – the primary and final – in the junior category for school students and the senior category for college and university students.
The students had to answer various complex questions in physics, chemistry, and mathematics.
There was also a team competition, where they solved engineering problems. More than six hundred students participated in the final phase.
A panel consisting of teachers from Mephigorod University in Russia evaluated the examination papers.
The top three in the junior category were awarded. Syed Mashrur Swachh, a student of Sara Jhaaudia High School, won first place.
In the senior category, a total of three awards were given in each subject group. Sama Jannat of Pabna University of Technology won first place in physics, Shakil Ahmed of the same university in chemistry, and Md. Akheruzzaman Jim of Rajshahi University of Technology won first place in mathematics.
Team *Rabian* of Rajshahi University won first place in the team engineering Olympiad.
The winners were formally awarded at the Ishwardi RRP Community Hall. Representatives from the Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission, Atomstroyexport, and a panel of teachers from MEFI University were present.
The event was addressed by Engineer Md. Ashraful Islam, Director of Rooppur Nuclear Construction Site; Nina Dementsova, Head of Communications Department of Atomstroyexport; and Alexander Nakhabov, Deputy Head of the Department of Nuclear Physics and Technology at Obninsk Institute of MEFI University.
