Ishwardi (Pabna) Correspondent :
An international environment and patriotism event “Remembrance Garden” was held at the Green City of Rooppur Nuclear Power Project (RNPP) in Ishwardi under the initiative of Rosatom Engineering Department. This event is organized for the first time in Bangladesh and Hungary. On Tuesday (May 14), Rosatom’s media reported that the engineering department regularly organises this event in countries that are building nuclear power plants.
It is known that employees and volunteers of Rosatom engineering department planted 28 saplings in Green City area. These saplings are planted in memory of the Russians and Bengalis who sacrificed their lives during World War II.
Alexey Deiri, Vice-President of Armaments Export and Russian Project Director of Rooppur NPP, said on Tuesday that we are honoring the heroes who sacrificed their lives in World War II by organizing this event. These trees planted today will not only remind us of the heroic deeds of our forefathers, but also contribute to the development of the environment. Rosatom has always been concerned about environmental protection. So we have been regularly cooperating with various environmental initiatives.
He also said that Bangladesh has a long historical relationship with the former Soviet Union.
The Soviet Union came forward to rebuild the economy destroyed in the Great War of Independence in 1971. After independence, Soviet sailors worked in the Chittagong port to clear mines and salvage sunken ships. It was an important operation of the Soviet Union abroad, about which many people do not know much.
Commemorative Garden event was initiated by Rus Foundation. The Russian Ministry of Natural Resources and the Federal Forestry Agency are supporting the initiative to commemorate the martyrs of World War II.
Under this initiative, a decision was taken to plant a total of 2.7 million saplings, one for each of the martyrs of World War II. Every tree is considered as a green memorial to every martyr. Another goal of this initiative is to protect and restore forest resources, which will help reduce global carbon emissions. This event is organized every year in different countries of the world including Russia. Volunteers from more than 50 countries around the world are involved in this work.
