Roads Blocked as Political Activity Disrupts Traffic

Online Report:

Several key roads in the capital and surrounding areas were blocked due to heightened political activity, causing severe traffic congestion and public inconvenience.

According to commuters and traffic officials, major intersections and arterial roads became gridlocked as groups of people gathered, vehicles were parked indiscriminately, and processions moved through busy routes. Office-goers, students, and emergency vehicles faced long delays, with some areas remaining virtually inaccessible for hours.

Traffic police said congestion worsened as blocked roads forced vehicles onto smaller streets, creating bottlenecks across neighbouring areas. While alternative routes were suggested, many commuters reported a lack of clear guidance and coordination on the ground.

Authorities stated that steps were being taken to restore normal traffic flow, urging organisers to cooperate and adhere to regulations governing public movement and assemblies. Officials also appealed to the public to avoid affected areas unless absolutely necessary.

Urban planners and civil society members criticised the recurring practice of road blockages, arguing that political expression should not come at the cost of public suffering. They stressed that blocking roads disrupts economic activity, hampers emergency services, and undermines citizens’ right to free movement.

Normal traffic was gradually returning in some areas by evening, though authorities warned that further disruptions could occur if gatherings continue.
