At least eight people including five in Faridpur were killed in separate tragic road crashes on Tuesday.
Aat least five people were killed and three others were injured when a train rammed a microbus on Kafura level crossing in Sadar upazila on Tuesday.
The deceased have been identified as identified as Mamun Chowdhury Liton, 50; his wife, Fahmida Sharmin Moon, 40; Umme Riltu, 30; Atifa Rahman Bhuiyan, 36; and Sajia Saju, 45. They are relatives and residents of Bhuiyanpara in Narayanganj.
Superintendent of Faridpur Police Abdul Jalil confirmed the matter to the media that a Dhaka-bound train from Rajshahi crashed into the microbus when it was passing the unauthorised level crossing around 12:00pm,
The microbus got smashed as the train dragged the microbus 100-150 yards along the tracks, leaving three people dead on the spot and three others injured, he said.
Two of the injured died at Faridpur sadar hospital. Deputy commissioner Kamrul Hasan Mollah visited the spot.
Faridpur Fire Service station officer Nazrul Islam said three bodies were recovered from the site. The microbus that plunged into a pond after colliding with the train has been recovered.
Faridpur Medical College Hospital ward master Atiar Rahman said, “Two people were brought dead to the hospital.”
Meanwhile, three people were killed in a head-on collision between a CNG-powered auto-rickshaw and a truck in the Chairman Bari area of Kaliakoir, Gazipur. The accident occurred on Tuesday (January 7) afternoon.
The names and identities of the deceased were not immediately known.
