Two separate road accidents claimed the lives of five people in Rangpur on Friday morning.
Three passengers traveling in a three-wheeler were killed in a head-on collision with a bus in the Mahiganj area early in the morning.
Two of the deceased were Shahin Alam and Ramjan Ali, while the third person’s identity remains unknown. One passenger, Millon, was critically injured and was taken to the Rangpur Medical College Hospital.
Later, at around 8:30am, another accident took place in the Pirgacha upazila of the district when a passenger bus, halted to pick up riders, was rear-ended by another bus. This collision resulted in the deaths of two passengers waiting to board and left five others injured. The identities of the deceased could not be known immediately.
Police and fire service personnel from Barodorga highway police station arrived at the scene and rescued the injured.
Both buses involved in the accidents have been seized, but the drivers and their assistants fled the scene.
