The first ignition to supply process steam began at the start-up standby boiler room at Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant. The Start-up Standby Boiler Room is critical in guaranteeing safe and uninterrupted operations at the plant. The project director of Ruppur NPP (RNPP) and the media wing of Rosatom reported on Friday.
Rooppur NPP project director Dr. Jahedul Hasan said, The steam produced at the start-up standby boiler room is used for the most important commissioning operations, such as the hot running of the reactor plant and trial vacuum supply in the turbine condenser. During the operation, the boiler equipment is used in scheduled preventive maintenance. Moreover, it provides a hot water supply to industrial facilities at the NPP site and guarantees the safe operation of the power unit in the event of an emergency shutdown.
“We are achieving objectives and meeting commitments stage-by-stage related to the construction of the first nuclear power plant in Bangladesh. Today, we have reached another important stage i.e. the launch of the start-up standby boiler room, which will facilitate further commissioning and ensure the operation of many NPP facilities. All these are elements of safe operation of the future NPP,” noted Alexey Deriy, ASE Vice President for Projects in Bangladesh.
Related: Rooppur NPP is being implemented with technical and financial assistance from Russia. It will host two power units with a total capacity of 2,400 MW. Russian VVER-1200 reactors have been chosen for the project. This is an evolutionary Generation III+ design reactor that fully complies with all the international safety requirements. Rosatom Engineering Division is the project’s general designer and general contractor.
