The government has started selling essential goods at fair prices for ready-made garment (RMG) workers through the Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB).
Labour and Employment Adviser Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuiyan on Wednesday formally inaugurated the programme at a function held at the Jaber & Zubair Fabrics Limited factory in Gazipur, said a press release.
In his speech, Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuyain said, “Today we have started the distribution of essential items at fair price for the RMG workers. We hope to expand this initiative to all regions across the country gradually,” he said.
Commerce Secretary Md Selim Uddin and Labour and Employment Secretary AHM Shafiquzzaman attended the event as special guests.
Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) President Khandoker Rafiqul Islam presided over it.
Khandoker Rafiqul Islam welcomed the government’s initiative and said it is a timely initiative that will help the country’s industrial development.
“When the workers of the RMG industry are suffering from high inflation, the initiative will bring some comfort in their lives and the industrial sector will be benefitted,” he said.
