NN Online:
BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi on Friday condemned what he described as “vested quarters” for misusing the party’s name to create unrest in various government offices, including the Income Tax Department, for their own benefit.

Speaking at a discussion organized by the Bangladesh Puja Udjapon Front at Bhasani Bhaban in the capital’s Nayapaltan area, Rizvi warned that certain individuals are launching self-serving movements under the guise of BNP activism.

“Those creating chaos at the Income Tax office or other government departments in BNP’s name have no connection with the party,” Rizvi asserted. “They are using the BNP label for personal gain.”

He cautioned that some elements are attempting to introduce unauthorized activities under the party’s name to establish influence within different institutions. “All nationalist-minded individuals must stay alert. Our Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman is taking strict measures against them,” Rizvi added.

Citing a specific example, he said he had received reports about an individual leading a campaign at the Income Tax office and even pushing for the removal of the NBR chairman.

“He is using BNP’s name to pursue his agenda. As BNP’s Senior Joint Secretary General, I was not informed. Neither were other party leaders. Who gave him the authority?” Rizvi questioned.

He urged BNP leaders and activists to remain vigilant against those damaging the party’s reputation. “The opportunities achieved through blood and sacrifice should not be misused. We must protect our movement to help restore genuine democracy.”

Rizvi also noted that while BNP criticizes the interim government for its failures, it supports any positive actions. He expressed hope that the national election will be held within a reasonable timeframe following the understanding reached between Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus and BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman in London.

Commenting on recent developments, Rizvi said former Chief Election Commissioner Habibul Awal’s admission that the 2024 national election was “a dummy election” exposes the illegitimacy of polls held during Sheikh Hasina’s tenure.

He further alleged that certain beneficiaries of the Awami League’s regime, embedded within the administration, are trying to sow confusion and disorder in public offices. “We must remain alert and resist any attempt to tarnish BNP’s image or derail our political struggle,” he said.
