Sylhet Bureau :
The Bangladesh Water Development Board (BWDB)’s Flood Forecasting and Warning Center has predicted that flood conditions may occur in the lower reaches of Sylhet division.

In its morning bulletin on Monday (August 3), the center said that the water level of several rivers in Sylhet and Sunamganj districts is rising rapidly and this trend may continue for the next three days. As a result, floods may occur in the low-lying areas along the rivers of Sylhet and Sunamganj districts.
Sardar Uday Raihan, Executive Engineer of the Flood Forecasting and Warning Center, released this report.
According to the report, 152 and 112 millimeters of rainfall have been recorded in Laudergarh and Maheshkhla in Sunamganj in the last 24 hours till this morning. At the same time, 57 to 112 millimeters of rain have been recorded in Lalakhal, Latu, Kanaighat and Jaflong in Sylhet.
Apart from this, the report mentions that there is a possibility of new floods from upstream due to very heavy rainfall in the Indian states of Meghalaya and West Bengal.
Due to heavy rainfall and hill floods, the water of the Lovachhara, Sarigowain, Jadukata and Someshwari rivers is continuously rising. As a result, there is a risk of flash floods or waterlogging in the lower areas of Sylhet and Sunamganj districts.
Meanwhile, the water of the Surma river is forecast to rise for another three days. The water of the Kushiyara river is currently decreasing, but it may rise again in two days, the report says.
