Three members of the United People’s Democratic Front (UPDF) were killed in rival gunfire in Panchhari, Khagrachhari on Wednesday around 10:30am. Officer-in-Charge of Khagrachhari Police Station Md Jasim Uddin confirmed this matter.
The deceased have been identified as Sijon Chakma, Shashan Tripura, and Joyen Chakma. UPDF Organiser Ongya Marma stated that they were killed at the scene. In response to this incident, the UPDF has announced a day to dusk road blockade in Khagrachhari district on Thursday.
UPDF Organiser Ongya Marma said the deceased were involved in local organisational activities in the area.
“A group of 13 to 14 armed assailants launched a surprise attack on them and then fled the scene, resulting in the deaths of the three individuals,” he added.
He has attributed newly formed gang members (MASKED group) for the incident.
