Rising temp grip Bangladesh

Heatwaves frequently impact Bangladesh due to a combination of geographical, climatic, and environmental factors.

The country’s location in the tropical monsoon region makes it naturally prone to high temperatures, especially during the pre-monsoon months from March to May. During this period, the absence of rain and the dominance of dry winds cause temperatures to rise significantly.

Climate change has further intensified heatwaves in recent years. The increasing levels of greenhouse gases trap more heat in the atmosphere, leading to prolonged and more extreme temperature spikes. Global warming has made heatwaves more frequent and severe, affecting both rural and urban areas.

Urbanization and deforestation have also contributed to rising temperatures. The rapid expansion of cities like Dhaka, Chattogram, and Khulna has resulted in the loss of green spaces, while concrete and asphalt surfaces absorb and retain heat, making urban areas significantly hotter than surrounding regions.
