Bangladesh leg-spinner Rishad Hossain has expressed his ambition to become the leading wicket-taker in the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup, starting on June 2.

Rishad, poised to make his debut in the T20 World Cup, will serve as Bangladesh’s specialist leg-spinner, fulfilling a long-standing need for the team. At just 21 years old, Rishad has already taken 15 wickets in 17 T20Is, boasting an economy rate slightly above seven.

“Of course, as a bowler I want to see the title ‘highest wicket-taker’ besides my name. And as an all-rounder, I want to see myself at a much higher level,” the leg-spinner said in a video posted by the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) on social media on Monday.

In addition to his economical bowling, Rishad has proven to be a valuable asset lower down the order with his ability to hit big shots. In just seven T20I innings, he has already scored a half-century and boasts a strike rate of over 135. Rishad attributes his six-hitting ability to his strong self-belief.

“Every batter wants to hit big shots, I’m also the same. To hit sixes, the most important thing is to have faith in yourself. I just try my best, I don’t do anything special. I don’t look at the bowler or anything else, I just take it ball by ball.”
