An annual progress and to-do review meeting was held in Joypurhat to make the village court activities more effective and people-friendly at the grassroots level. The meeting was held at the Deputy Commissioner’s conference room on Tuesday afternoon.
Deputy Director of Local Government Department Mohd Sabur Ali presided over the function and Deputy Commissioner Afroza Akter Chowdhury spoke as the chief guest. Kalai Upazila Executive Officer Shamima Akter Jahan, Akkelpur Upazila Executive Officer Manjurul Alam, Panchbibi Upazila Executive Officer Romana Riaz, Sadar Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) and Executive Magistrate Rajib Kumar Biswas, Khetlal Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) Jinnatul Ara, Deputy Commissioner Mizanur Rahman, and District Manager of the Village Court Activation (Phase III) Project Rajiur Rahman Raju spoke among others.
In addition, various officials and public representatives of the Union Parishad associated with the village court also participated in the meeting.
The discussants at the meeting said that in light of the Village Courts Act 2006 and the amended Act 2024, the Union Parishads should be developed as centers for establishing accessible justice for the people. For this, emphasis was placed on awareness campaigns, training, and increasing coordination with ongoing programs.
Later, commemorative mementos were presented to the executive officers of Joypurhat Sadar, Khet Lal and Kalai Upazila in recognition of their contribution to the village court activities.
