Senior BNP leader Abdul Moyeen Khan has reaffirmed his party’s call for the restoration of democracy in Bangladesh through a fair and credible election, stating it is essential for the country’s future development.

Speaking to reporters on Saturday at the grave of BNP founder Ziaur Rahman, Moyeen Khan said that the current political environment lacks the democratic values envisioned during the Liberation War.

“The Awami League, which claims to be the key force behind the country’s independence, has ironically undermined democracy — the very essence of our Liberation War,” said Moyeen, a member of the BNP standing committee.

He was addressing the media after paying tribute to the late president at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar in Dhaka, alongside leaders and activists of the Jatiyatabadi Baul Dal, which was marking its 18th founding anniversary.

Moyeen emphasized that the BNP has been consistently fighting for the return of democratic governance and civil liberties.

“One-party rulers may impose their power, but they can never win the hearts of the people,” he stated. Reiterating BNP’s political stance, Moyeen added, “We do not believe in the politics of revenge.

BNP stands for the rights and freedoms of all citizens, regardless of political affiliation.”

The statement comes amid ongoing political tensions and calls from opposition parties for reforms in the electoral process.
