Authorities in Gazipur’s Sreepur upazila sealed off a resort and imposed a Tk2 lakh fine following a case filed over the alleged gang rape of a model. A mobile court carried out the operation jointly with police on Saturday.
The raid targeted Rass Resort in Uttar Pelaid village under Telihati union, after the victim lodged a case with Sreepur Police Station on 25 September.
During the drive, law enforcers arrested 18 people-two women from Jashore and 16 employees of the resort. They also recovered foreign liquor and “items linked to immoral activities” from Room 103, according to Sreepur Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohammad Abdul Barek.
“The recovered evidence shows that the resort was being used for anti-social purposes, including bringing in women from various districts,” the OC said, adding that efforts are underway to capture the prime suspects who remain on the run.
Sreepur Assistant Commissioner (Land) Md Saidul Islam, who headed the mobile court, said the management could not produce any legal registration papers. “Consequently, the resort was fined Tk2 lakh and temporarily sealed,” he noted.
According to the case statement, the victim-an actress and model from Mirpur in Dhaka-was taken to the resort on 21 September on the pretext of participating in a drama shoot. She alleged that around 3:30am she was confined to a room and assaulted by drama director Nasir Uddin Masud (35), his aide Babor (32), and a third man introduced as the resort’s owner, about 60 years old.
The trio reportedly threatened to kill her with a broken glass bottle, beat her, and raped her. The next day, they allegedly seized her iPhone valued at Tk2.4 lakh before forcing her to leave the premises.
The survivor said she initially tried to file a case in Dhaka but was directed to lodge it under the jurisdiction where the crime occurred, which delayed the proceedings. She has since undergone a medical test.
“I was taken to the resort under false pretenses, kept captive, brutally assaulted, and raped while being threatened with death,” she stated in her complaint. “I seek justice.”
When contacted, accused Nasir rejected the allegations, insisting that they had merely gone on a trip and that he was being “framed for blackmail.”
