Residents of Khejurtek area of Ashulia organized a human chain and protest march against a father and son accusing him of being a drug dealer and terrorist. But even then the local people are feeling scared because the law enforcement forces have not taken any action.
This information was presented at a press conference organized at Khejurtek Bazar in Pathalia Union of Ashulia on Friday.
About 300 local residents and victims of terrorist families participated in this press conference.
Local residents said in the press conference that Mujibur Rahman, son of Korban Ali of Khejurtek area and his son Samiul Alam Saikat have been involved in drug trade for a long time. They also alleged that they have been carrying on the drug business since the Awami League era by avoiding the eyes of the law enforcement agencies. They are not being arrested.
Mohammad Shafiqul Islam, Joint Convener of Ashulia Thana Volunteer Team, read the written statement at the press conference. Shafiqul Islam said, we are disgusted by the immoral activities of Mujibar and his son Saikat. They have been carrying out drug trade and terrorist activities in the area for a long time. On April 7, we local residents formed a human chain on the side of the Dhaka-Aricha highway demanding their trial and arrest. Since then I have been threatened by various people. All those who participated in the human chain that day are now scared. They are afraid to leave the house.
A few days before Eid, Mujibar’s son Saikat wanted to force some local people to sell drugs. When they did not agree, they beat them and took money from them and then released them. They left the area in fear. We have drawn the attention of law enforcement. No action has been taken yet. Local people are afraid to go out after evening. If you speak against them, you fear filing a false case.
The victim Ikram Hossain said, “Mujibar’s son Saikat called me from home three months ago. 400/500 pieces Yaba brought in front of me and told me that you have to sell them. Seeing that I did not agree, they beat me and admitted me to the hospital. Later went to my house and locked my room. He still threatens me on mobile. I have filed a written complaint at the police station but have not yet received justice. The police were coming and sent them money. Ramda, pistols, Chinese axes are all near the beach. We have been living in this area for 30 years, just moved to another area for the last 2 months because of her fear. He also took money from me by force.
The victim Mukul Hossain said, I work in a shop in Jamgora. 5 days before this Eid, Saikat took me to his office and tied my hands, legs and eyes and told me to sell his Yaba.
I say I can’t. For this they are beating me, threatening to catch me with the administration including Yaba. Later, when I demanded 20,000 taka, my relatives released me with 10,000 taka. I don’t file a case out of fear, I don’t go to the police station.
Another victim Kabir said that on the last 26 days of Ramadan, Saikat brought me in front of his office with his men without any reason.
Saikat and his associates Tofazzal, Rabbi, Monir and others were present there. When he started beating me, I asked what I had done. I want to know why I am being tortured. Later they threatened me to be arrested by the police. We strongly protest and demand justice for torturing common people like us for no reason.
