Farid Ahmed, the country’s renowned music director and composer, has died today after being infected with coronavirus or Covid-19. He died at the ICU of Square Hospital in the capital at around 9:30 am on Tuesday.
Confirming his death, lyricist Farida Farhana said, “Farid Ahmed had been on life support in the ICU of Square Hospital since April 11.”
According to family sources, Farid Ahmed contracted coronavirus along with his wife in the last week of March. As his condition deteriorated, he was admitted to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University Hospital (BSMMU) in the capital on the night of March 25. Although his wife Sheuli Akhter was recovered, the condition of Farid Ahmed did not improve much.
Doctors said the coronavirus had damaged 60pc of Farid’s lungs. At the same time, he was suffering from diabetes complications.
Farid Ahmed is the composer of many timeless songs. He was first acclaimed for his song “Tumi Chara Ami Jeno Moruvumi” written by Liton Adhikary Rintu and sung by Kumar Bishwajit. He has also contributed a lot as an ambient musician for drama and cinema.
His notable composing songs are – Magazine show ‘Ityadi’s title song “Keu Keu Obiram Chupi Chupi”, “Tumi Chara Ami Jeno Moruvumi”, “Moneri Raag Onuraag”, Runa Laila’s “Ferari Siren”, Runa Laila- Sabina Yasmin’s duet “Dolchut Projapoti”, Channel i’s “Aj Jonmodin”, “Hridoye Mati O Manush”, etc.
Farid Ahmed won the National Film Award in 2017 as the Best Music Director for “Tumi Robe Nirobe”.
He was the general secretary of two separate organizations, the Music Composers Society and the Resh Foundation.
