Most schools and colleges in Sylhet city canceled classes and exams today due to the flash flood. In addition, power supply has been suspended in most city areas since last night.

The city’s flooding problems are further exacerbated by the fact that several major roads are now under water. Five upazilas in Sylhet were earlier flooded after a night of heavy rain last Wednesday (May 29).

While the flood situation briefly improved thanks to a two-day break in rain, heavy downpour on Sunday evening worsened conditions, causing the flash flood to extend into the city.

Sylhet City Mayor (Incharge) Maklishur Rahman Kamran visited several waterlogged areas of the city including Uposhohor and Jatarpur area and talked to the affected people and asked the concerned authorities to launch a drive to free the waterbodies, canals and drains to solve the waterlogging problem.
