Expatriate Bangladeshis sent home a record $2.64 billion in remittances in December, a 32 per cent year-on-year growth as remittance inflow stood at $2 billion in December 2023.

With the latest addition, the year-on-year growth in receiving remittances stood at 27.56 per cent for the first six months, July to December, of the ongoing fiscal year (FY25) as the country received $13.78 billion in total during the period. Last year, it was $10.80 billion.

A senior official of the central bank mentioned that the flow of remittances into the country shows an upward trend as the government has taken measures to streamline the legal channel for encouraging non-resident Bangladeshis (NRBs) to send money to the country, reports BSS.
