Remittance inflow to the country rose by 7.20 per cent or by over $933 million in the first 11 months of the outgoing 2014-15 financial year (FY15), heightening the expectation that the yearly inflow would cross $15 billion mark at the end of this month.
Bangladeshi living overseas sent home $1.294 billion during the same period in the 2013-14 fiscal year.
The latest Bangladesh Bank (BB) data showed that the country received a total of $13.874 billion during July-May period of the FY13 and would require only $1.126 billion to reach the record $15 billion mark for the first time. The required amount is lower than the monthly average of $1.26 billion, which the country got in the past 11 months of the FY15.
BB data also showed that the remittance inflow bounced back in May when Bangladeshi abroad sent home $1.318 billion, 1.64 per cent higher than $1.297 billion received in April.
The monthly inflow is also up by 8.47 per cent on year-on-year basis. Last year the inflow of remittance in May was $1.215 billon.
The remittance declined in April after the country receiving $1.338 billion in March, which was the highest in the past five months. The highest inflow of monthly remittance during the outgoing 2014-15 fiscal year, however, was 1.492 billion in July.
