Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus is set to inaugurate a newly designed, comfortable waiting lounge for expatriate workers and their families at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA).
The spacious lounge, located on the second floor of the airport’s multilevel car parking facility, will provide essential amenities for migrant workers who arrive early from remote areas across Bangladesh.
Upon his return from Azerbaijan, where he attended the global climate summit “Conference of Parties-29 (COP-29),” Professor Yunus will preside over the opening ceremony on Thursday evening.
The Executive Director of HSIA, Group Captain Kamrul Islam, shared the announcement earlier this morning, expressing gratitude for Yunus’s presence at the event.
The new lounge is part of an initiative by the Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB) to enhance the travel experience for expatriates, who often face long waiting periods before their flights.
“We aim to provide our valued passengers a more comfortable experience with this new facility,” Islam said.
The lounge is designed to accommodate the specific needs of migrant workers and their families. It features separate waiting areas, prayer spaces for men and women, a baby care room, and a cafeteria with reasonably priced refreshments. Islam emphasized that the lounge represents CAAB’s commitment to easing the airport experience for these important members of the community.
Just a few days ago, on November 11, Yunus also inaugurated the “Probashi Lounge” within HSIA, an exclusive space for Bangladeshi migrant workers. This lounge, a first-of-its-kind at Dhaka airport, offers these workers a place to rest, as well as access to subsidized food options.
