The 126th birth anniversary of National poet, Kazi Nazrul Islam, widely revered for his limitless contribution to Bengali literature, was observed on Sunday though the various programmes in Kishoreganj.
Known and regarded as the rebel poet for his iconoclastic and majestic literary creations, Nazrul was born in Churulia village of Burdwan in the Indian state of West Bengal in 1899.
Through his fiery poems, the poet inspired people to fight against the injustice and repression of colonial rule.
District Administration of Kishoreganj, including Shilpakala Academy arranged a discussion meeting at local Callectorate conference room on Sunday morning.
Deputy Commissioner (DC), also Joint Secretary Fouzia Khan presided over the discussion. It was addressed among others, ADC(General) Mizabe Rahmat, Additional SP(Crime&Ops) Mahmudul Islam, ADC(Education & ICT) Jesmin Akhter, District Jamaat Amir Professor Md. Ramjan Ali and District Cultural Officer Nijum -ara.
DC Fouzia Khan, highlighting the colourful life of the poet and his contributions to the Bangla language and literature.
Later, a cultural function held at Shilpakala Academy Auditorium on Sunday evening.
