A nationwide red alert has been issued to apprehend the former Officer-in-Charge Shah Alam, who was arrested in connection with a murder case filed over the anti-discrimination student movement.
The alert was issued following his escape from Uttara East Police Station in Dhaka, Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Uttara Division, Rownak Jahan disclosed the information on Friday.
Shah Alam, arrested by Uttara East Police Station in connection with the murder case related to the anti-discrimination student movement, managed to escape on Thursday while preparations were underway to present him in court.
Following his escape, joint operations are being conducted by the army, RAB, and all units of the police to locate and arrest him.
The current Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Uttara East Police Station, Md. Mohibullah, stated, “Efforts are ongoing by the army, RAB, and all police units to arrest Shah Alam. Assistance from technology is also being utilized. We are hopeful of apprehending him soon.”
According to Deputy Commissioner (DC) of DMP’s Media and Public Relations Division, Muhammad Talebur Rahman, a murder case was filed against Shah Alam on September 2 last year in connection with the anti-discrimination student movement.
He was arrested on Wednesday and was set to be presented in court on Thursday when he tactically escaped. As a consequence of negligence, an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) has been temporarily suspended.
Shah Alam served as the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Uttara East Police Station during the concluding stages of the anti-discrimination student movement.
His most recent role was as an Inspector at the In-Service Training Center in Kushtia.
He was named as an accused in the murder case filed on September 2 last year in connection with the student movement.
