The historic Pagla Mosque in Kishoreganj town has once again witnessed a record-breaking donation collection, receiving a staggering Tk. 9.17 crore in its 11 donation boxes.
The massive amount, found in at least 28 sacks and one trunk, included local currency, foreign money, and gold ornaments.
The counting process began at 7:00 am and continued uninterrupted for over 10 hours, concluding around 5:30 pm.
A team of 400 people, including members of the mosque’s managing committee, students and teachers from the Pagla Mosque madrasa, participated in the counting.
The donation boxes were last opened on November 30 of the previous year, when 29 sacks of money totaling Tk. 8.21 crore were collected. This time, the boxes were opened after a gap of four months and 11 days, timed strategically around Ramadan and Eid to accommodate larger contributions.
During the box-opening were Kishoreganj Deputy Commissioner (and Pagla Mosque Managing Committee President) Fouzia Khan, Superintendent of Police Mohammad Hasan Chowdhury BPM, ADC (General) Mizabe Rahmat, and ADM Jesmin Akhter were present. Security was strictly maintained, with personnel from the army, police, RAB, and Ansar ensuring a secure environment until the counting was completed.
The Pagla Mosque holds a special place in the hearts of devotees. Legend speaks of a spiritually eccentric saint who once lived in the meadow near the Narsunda River in the Harua area.
After his death, a mosque was built in his memory, which came to be known as the Pagla Mosque.
People of all faiths and communities continue to donate here, believing that wishes made at this holy site come true.
Deputy Commissioner Fouzia Khan informed the media that, after all expenses, a total of Tk. 80.75 crore has so far been deposited in Rupali Bank Ltd., Kishoreganj Corporate Branch.
Looking ahead, a project is underway to build an International-standard Islamic Complex on the mosque grounds.
The initial estimated cost is Tk 115 crore, and once completed, it will accommodate up to 30,000 worshippers at a time, said DC Fouzia Khan.
This remarkable event once again highlights the deep faith and generous spirit of the people who support Pagla Mosque.
