Fisheries and Livestock Adviser Farida Akhter has said, “We often talk about smart climate or environmentally friendly technologies, but it is crucial to seriously consider whether these technologies are genuinely suitable for the country’s fisherfolk and coastal communities. That’s why conducting a reality check in the use of technology is extremely important.”
She made these remarks as the chief guest while speaking at a workshop titled “Assessment of the Suitability of Integrated Multi-Trophic Aquaculture (IMTA) for Bangladesh, Value Chain Study of IMTA Species, Rapid Situation Analysis of Coastal and Marine Sectors, and Environmental and Climate Impact Assessment” held at Lakeshore Heights in Gulshan, in the capital on Thursday.
The Adviser said that it is important to dispel the misconception that coastal people or fisherfolk are ignorant about technology. The assumption that they do not use science-based technologies is incorrect. In fact, there is much to learn from their traditional knowledge, which contains valuable insights.
