Price stability matters most
From the budget presented by the finance minister on Thursday, it appears that the price of essential commodities, including rice and pulse, will come down from the current level. Verily the poor people will be happy because they will be able to buy their essentials with their little income.
They are not concerned with the country’s export and import, balance of trade, balance of payment, gross domestic product, foreign currency reserve and government’s borrowings with the banks, but they want security of life and property, improved law and order. At present, the law and order situation is not good. Kidnapping and killing are going on side by side. The government should not ignore it in any case.
At present, the price of nazirsail brand of rice is Tk 48 to 56 per kilogram, miniket Tk 48 to 52, lentil Tk 100 to 120, Mash Tk 92 and gram Tk 80. A retired government employee said, “The poor people will not get the benefits of the budget, if the government does not take proper step of protecting their interests. Mere presentation of budget does not ensure execution.” So, we hope that there will be taken adequate steps in this regard.
