Even though she is a female administrator, Khagrachhari’s Ramgarh Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Mamata Afrin has won people’s hearts with her courage, humanity and honesty. After the news of her transfer to Bandarban as Additional District Administrator was recently published, netizens on social media Facebook praised her activities. Some wrote, ‘The success of working with people of many ethnicities, religions and languages in the hilly area is the extraordinary ability of UNO Mamata Afrin. If all UNOs were like this, there would be a bond of trust and confidence between the administration and the general public at the grassroots level.’ Local common people from different classes and professions have posted statuses on their Facebook IDs praising UNO Mamata Afrin’s honesty, humanity, generosity, courage, and dedication. She made a place in the minds of the common people as a humanitarian administrator by standing by the helpless victims of the terrible floods in Ramgarh last August-September. Youth Red Crescent Coordinator Omar Farooq said, “Because she (UNO Mamata) was by our side, we have saved the lives of countless people trapped in the floods, risking our lives, and fed the victims.”
She is also renowned for her good relations and coordination with officials of various government departments in the upazila. She joined Ramgarh after being promoted to the post of Upazila Nirbahi Officer on January 11, 2023. On April 8, the Ministry of Public Administration issued a notification appointing him as Additional District Commissioner of Bandarban. She is waiting to join his new job subject to the release (discharge) of the higher authorities. She is currently also serving as Upazila Chairman and Municipality Administrator.
After joining Ramgarh as UNO, he implemented various important government projects with integrity. She also received the award of Best UNO of the district for the success of the birth and death registration program. Mamata Afrin, an officer of the 34th BCS Administration Cadre, said, ‘The responsibility of Upazila Nirbahi Officer is very important in field administration. There are difficult challenges in performing this responsibility, but there are also many opportunities to do something for the welfare of the common people. The satisfaction I have got from this position for doing something for the common people is incomparable.’
