In Rangpur, the city’s conscious civil society held a symbolic protest rally against the ongoing fossil fuel investment by the G7 countries. Friday afternoon, a non-governmental organization organized Dops near Begum Rokeya University.
Dops Executive Director Ujjal Kumar Chakravati, Narbiahi Parchilak YuvaNato, Afzal Hosne Nurul Islam Program Manzoor Narul Islam were present among the campaigners.
Organized by DOPS, the Coastal Livelihood and Environment Coalition and the Bangladesh Working Group on Ecology and Development, the protest called for an immediate end to fossil fuel funding.
DOPS Executive Director Ujjal Chakraborty also said that “there is Japanese investment in the Rupsa 800 MW Combined Cycle LNG Power Plant.” Climate activists also claimed that the US company Accelerate Energy would build an LNG terminal in Cox’s Bazar’s Maheshkhali, which would fuel the LNG power plant. The protest is part of a global campaign against fossil fuel financing by the G7 countries around the world.
The protesters demanded an end to “climate crime” by immediately ending all financial support for fossil fuel projects worldwide. Ensure our future energy security by getting out of fossil fuel addiction.
