A woman, in her 30s, was allegedly raped by a railway staff in a moving in Dhaka on Wednesday morning.
The incident took place in the toilet of the Rangpur Express in Kamalapur rail station area while the train was leaving Dhaka.
Railway police detained railway staff Saiful Islam, 28, and resident of Gaibadha, in this connection.
Saiful was working as a PA (Public Address) or announcer operator in the train, said police.
Confirming the incident, Syedpur railway superintendent of police Farhat Ahmed said that as per the victim, the incident took place at about 9:00am.
When the victim informed the on-duty rail police about the incident police detained Saiful, he said.
Farhat Ahmed continued that the victim and the accused had been taken to the Shantahar station in Bogura and from there they would be returned to Kamalapur Railway Station in Dhaka.
‘As the incident allegedly took place in Dhaka, the case will be filed there,’ he said. The victim is from Kurigram and she was travelling alone, the police added.
Earlier the Railway Police on June 26, 2024, arrested three staff of Bangladesh Railway’s catering service for raping a female passenger in a moving train, Udayan Express, on the Sylhet-Chattogram route in the early hours of the day.
Before that the police arrested a train attendant of Lalmoni Express on charges of raping a schoolgirl in the running train on January 16, 2024.
