The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has seized 37,000 cubic feet of looted stones from Bholaganj in Sylhet.
These were recovered during a drive in Dhopagul area of Sylhet on Thursday (August 21) afternoon.
According to RAB sources, a large amount of stone was illegally extracted in Companiganj and Gowainghat upazilas in the last one year. After the matter was published in the media, there was a nationwide uproar. Later, a writ petition was filed in the High Court to take legal action against those involved in the white stone looting incident.
In continuation of this, on Thursday afternoon, RAB-9 conducted a raid in the Dhopagul area under Sylhet Airport Police Station and recovered 37,000 cubic feet of stone looted from Bholaganj.
RAB-9 Additional Superintendent of Police (Media) KM Shahidul Islam Sohag said that further legal action on the seized stone is under process.
