A private university student was rescued by RAB on Wednesday after getting abducted a month ago. After abduction him from city’s Uttara, all the videos of brutal torture are being sent to the family which demand ransom. Ransom is being demanded from Indian numbers.
Five kidnappers, including the ringleader of the gang, were arrested so far in this connection.
The arrestees were identified as Masud,33, Abdul Malek,35, Samidul Islam30, Roni Nabal,41, Rashel Mia,34, and Billal Hossain24.
Masud was arrested on Tuesday from Gosairhat in Shariatpur. The others were arrested on Wednesday from the Tanguar Haor area. Of them, Samidul is the driver of victim Kazi Hasibur Rahman Himel.
RAB Legal and Media Wing Director Commander Khandaker Al Moin confirmed the matter in a press conference at RAB Media Center on Thursday (January 25).
RAB officials said the victim, along with his driver, left for Sherpur around 9:30am on December 26 for family business purposes. Himel’s mother Tahura Haque filed a general diary with Uttara West Police Station on the same day after she could not reach him over phone.
In the meantime, the kidnappers called from an Indian number and demanded Tk 2 crore as ransom from the mother. They also sent videos of torturing Himel.
Later, the abductors lowered their demands and threatened to kill Himel if the demand was not met. During the interrogation of the arrested, Commander Moin said that Malek is the mastermind of the kidnappers ring and driver Samidul is one of the planners.
