RAB not being used for political purpose, but for country’s security: MoFA

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) has confirmed that the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) is not being used for political purpose rather the elite force is guarding the security of the country.
“RAB is working for guarding the security of the country. RAB is not being used for achieving any political gain. We are confirmed in this regard,” Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Seheli Sabrin said this during the Weekly Press Briefing in Foreign Ministry on Thursday.
She came up with the information in reply to a query by the journalists regarding the media report published on the German media, Deutsche Welle (DW) recently.
Regarding the latest verification of the Rohingyas for repatriation, she said, “Efforts are going on for the
repatriation of the Rohingyas. A Myanmar team verified 480 Rohingyas. The team informed that they will let the update through diplomatic channel. We still did not get anything”.
“For sustainable and voluntary repatriation of the Rohingyas to their homeland in Rakhine, China, Myanmar and ASEAN are jointly working on it. Besides, efforts are on for the repatriation of the second batch,” she continued.
Regarding the joining of Bangladesh to Indo-Pacific Strategy, she said, “Bangladesh will never lean towards any particular country by deviating from its principle – friendship to all malice to none. To uphold the economic interest and to develop the socio-economic condition and livelihoods of the people across the broad are the primary cornerstones of Bangladesh”.
As a coastal country, it would be unwise to expect that Bangladesh will remain inactive out of the purview the connectivity of seas and oceans for geo-political development. We can assure all that Bangladesh will remain committed to this peaceful geo-political strategy. The ministry is working on it regarding it.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has sent the certified file of suspect Arab Khan, alias Rabiul Islam, to the relevant ministry in the United Arab Emirates for his extradition to the country in connection with the murder case of a police officer.
“In order to bring back Arav Khan home, the ministry of foreign affairs has sent the extradition file to the concerned ministry of UAE through Bangladeshi mission there. We will let you know about the update later,” she said.
In reply to another question, she said that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs believes that the issue of the arrest of former US President Donald Trump is an internal matter of the country and therefore, it is not appropriate for Bangladesh to comment on it.
“The issue of the arrest of former US President Donald Trump is an internal matter of the United States and is currently under the jurisdiction of their courts. Therefore, it is not appropriate for us to comment on the internal affairs of another country,” she said.
About the arrest of the eight Bangladeshi in Saudi Arabia over visa scam, she said, the Saudi Mission of Bangladesh has been continuously in touch with the concerned ministry of the Saudi Arabia and if there was any update, the ministry will tell it later.
