The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has arrested four individuals, including Shahin Kazi-better known as ‘Picchi Shaheen’ (40)-in connection with an attempted murder case filed during the last year’s anti-discrimination student movement.

The RAB-2 disclosed the arrests in a press statement issued on Friday. The information was later confirmed by Khan Asif Topu, Senior Assistant Director of RAB-2’s Media Wing.
The other three arrested have been identified as Md Guddu (38), Shafiqul Islam (48), and Md Selim (32).

According to RAB, the detainees face multiple cases across Mohammadpur, Adabor, and Tejgaon police stations.
“Shaheen had ambitions of securing a position within the Jubo League,” said Khan Asif Topu. “His main identity, however, is that he was an associate of Mohammadpur’s former commissioner Rajib and notorious criminal Joseph.

During the student movement, Shaheen and his associates attempted to kill the protesting students.”

The press statement further revealed that specific cases were filed against Shaheen and Selim with Mohammadpur Police Station, against Guddu with Adabor Police Station, and against Shafiqul with Tejgaon Police Station.

The four had been under intelligence surveillance for some time. Acting on a tip-off, the RAB conducted raids in Mohammadpur and Tejgaon industrial areas on Wednesday and detained them.
During preliminary questioning, the accused reportedly admitted to being directly or indirectly involved in recent activities aimed at destabilizing the government.

RAB stated that further operations are underway to apprehend their remaining accomplices based on information gathered from the suspects.
