Sylhet Bureau :
Rapid Action Battalion (RAB)-9 has conducted a special campaign at Sylhet Railway Station to prevent black marketing of train tickets.
The campaign was conducted on Friday (October 24) morning with the support of the Sylhet District Administration.
RAB-9’s Media Officer Additional Superintendent of Police K. M. Shahidul Islam Sohag said in a press release on Saturday afternoon that there have been allegations of black marketing of train tickets at Sylhet Railway Station for a long time. Recently, due to the shortage of vehicles on the Sylhet-Dhaka highway and the increasing suffering of passengers, the demand for train tickets has increased. This opportunity has also increased the violence of black marketing of tickets.
Keeping in mind the slogan “Ticket belongs to him, travel belongs to him,” RAB-9 has taken the initiative to take effective measures to prevent black marketing of tickets.
On the first day of the operation, at least 25 passengers on the Paharika Express, Parabat Express and Udayan Express trains were fined through a mobile court for allegedly having mismatched names on the tickets, traveling beyond the designated destination, and traveling without tickets.
RAB said that such operations will continue and that black marketing of tickets will not be tolerated in any way. Meanwhile, on Friday (October 24), at 10:30 am, a program has been started in Sylhet to make it mandatory for passengers to carry their National Identity Cards (NID) to prevent black marketing of train tickets.
It is worth noting that the complaint of black marketing of tickets at the Sylhet Railway Station has been going on for a long time. Recently, due to traffic congestion on the Dhaka-Sylhet highway and the increasing suffering of bus passengers, the demand for train tickets has suddenly increased. This has also increased the violence of black marketing. In view of this, Sylhet Deputy Commissioner Md. Sarwar Alam recently decided to make NID mandatory on trains to implement the slogan ‘He who has the ticket, travels with him’.
